  • 3.2mm 7×19 Galvanised Steel Wire Rope is used primarily used in rigging or lifting.  It is commonly referred to as ‘working wire’ as Galvanised Wire Rope will not work harden in the same way that Stainless Steel wire will over time. Used by both Professionals and DIY’s, it is excellent with all 3.0mm and 3.2mm fittings. Tensile Strength (MBS) = ~713.8kg
  • Application: Considered a Highly flexible wire making it easy to work with and bend with virtually no stretch coefficient. Its ease of use makes it excellent for use with Thimble and Ferrule fittings and can be used with hydraulically swaged fittings. Other uses Include: Picture (statue?) Hanging, Shop Fitting, Shade Sails, Trellis structuring, ‘Green Wall’ construction, Rigging Slings, Theatre Production Infrastructure – Stage Lights, Curtains, & Prop Construction
  • Length of Wire: Please use the combinations of the offered lengths to get the total length for which you search. E.G. – choose a quantity of “8” of the 10M length to select a single length of 80 Metres. All quantities of Wire Rope are cut and shipped as a single length unless otherwise discussed as a special order. Depending on total length, wire is packaged as a coil or a reel – both are factory wrapped and sealed. A requirement of less than 100M on a reel needs a special order (please phone first).
  • Quality: All Low Cost Wire products meet our strict ISO Quality Standards. Long experience with wire and rope manufacturing enables the design and manufacture of wire rope with optimal balance between high tensile strength, fatigue resistance, abrasion resistance, and structural stability. The added bonus is that they provide a special treatment for bright and smooth surface of wire and cable to deliver a truly top-shelf, long lasting product that will look new for ages…

Usage Tips

  • First of all, this wire may be mechanically - fastened or manually or hydraulically swaged.
  • Cutting of the wire is best done using Parrot Beak cutters (collapsing trapezoidal design) rather than shears or a grinder.
  • Terminal Loops are formed with Mechanical fastening or manual swaging. In addition, terminal loops must use thimbles (eyelets) (Stainless Steel or Galvanised) to retain the strength of the wire by distributing the load along the entire length of wire in the terminal loop (available here). Recommended for only 7x7 and 7x19 structures
  • Mechanical fastening is done with Wire Rope Grips (Bulldog Grips) Low Cost Wire does not recommend this approach. Industry practice is three per terminal loop for safety purposes. This only suits 7x7 and 7x19 structures.
  • Manual swaging is done using Ferrules (or crimps or hand swages) rather than Wire Rope Grips. Nickel Coated Copper may be used instead of Aluminum with Galvanised Wire Rope.  Neither Nickel Coated Copper or Aluminium swages cause a dissimilar alloys reaction and corrode the Galvanised Steel wire. Low Cost Wire strongly recommends an All-in-1 swaging tool. Recommended for only 7x7 and 7x19 structures
  • Hydraulic swaging is done using a hydraulic press either bench mounted or hand held. Hydraulic swaging for architectural purposes may economically use a Professional Hydraulic Swaging Tool while remaining work safe. These tools generate pressure 'spot' welds. Low Cost Wire strongly recommends that hydraulic swaging for lifting and marine applications use a bench mounted hydraulic press which can generate pressure 'seam' welds. Recommended for 1x19. (works with 7x7 and 7x19 structures).

Installation Considerations

  • Matching alloys is important and avoiding cross contamination is very important. Standard fittings for Galvanised Steel Wire are made from either Aluminium or Galvanised Steel (Stainless Steel and Copper Fittings will also work but they are generally more expensive).
  • It is recommended that similar alloy fasteners are used with the chosen fittings so that a dissimilar (corrosive) alloy reaction is avoided.
  • Lengths of wire less than 100M are cut and labelled as a coil. Lengths of 150M and above are (generally) delivered on a reel however, small lengths can be put on a drum for a small additional cost (please refer to our Reeling Service
