This diameter of  Galvanised Steel Wire Rope is most often used in fencing or light rigging – such as blinds or windows with the 7×7 wire structures best suited for use in mechanically swaged fittings.
Please use the combinations of the offered lengths to get the total length you want. (e.g. – choose a quantity of “8” of the 10M length to select a single length of 80 Metres).
A separate ‘cut to length’ and ‘custom reeling’ service’ is can be requested for a small additional fee.

 

  • This 1.5mm 7×7 Galvanised Steel Wire Rope is precision manufactured 2070 Marine Grade for enhanced durability in corrosive and hostile environments (marine or industrial)
  • Various Lengths offered are Factory Wrapped & Sealed. Please use the combinations of the offered lengths to get the total length you want (e.g. – choose a quantity of “8” of the 10M length to select a single length of 80 Metres). Each length is contiguous with lengths of 150M and above delivered on a reel
  • 7×7 G2070 Wire Rope terminal loops require completion with thimbles and ferrules (aluminium, copper, or nickel coated copper) or bulldog clamps (wire rope grips).
  • Common recommended uses include pulley hoists, shop fitting, as control cables or very light rigging.  It is commonly referred to as ‘working wire’ as Galvanised Wire Rope will not work harden in the same way that Stainless Steel wire will over time.
  • Our wire rope is designed and manufactured with the optimal balance between high tensile strength, fatigue resistance, abrasion resistance, and structural stability. Usage Tips

  • First of all, this wire may be mechanically - fastened or manually or hydraulically swaged.
  • Cutting of the wire is best done using Parrot Beak cutters (collapsing trapezoidal design) rather than shears or a grinder.
  • Terminal Loops are formed with Mechanical fastening or manual swaging. In addition, terminal loops must use thimbles (eyelets) to retain the strength of the wire by distributing the load along the entire length of wire in the terminal loop (available here). Recommended for only 7x7 and 7x19 structures
  • Mechanical fastening is done with Wire Rope Grips (Bulldog Grips) Low Cost Wire does not generally recommend this approach. Industry practice is to use three grips per terminal loop for safety purposes. This only suits 7x7 and 7x19 structures.
  • Manual swaging is done using Ferrules (or crimps or hand swages) rather than Wire Rope Grips. Matching alloys is important. Nickel Coated Copper is used are used with Stainless Steel Wire Rope and Aluminum are used with Galvanised Wire Rope As a result, catastrophic swaging failure will not occur. Aluminium swages WILL cause a dissimilar alloys reaction and as a result corrode the Stainless Steel wire. Low Cost Wire strongly recommends an All-in-1 swaging tool. Recommended for only 7x7 and 7x19 structures
  • Hydraulic swaging is done using a hydraulic press either bench mounted or hand held. Hydraulic swaging for architectural purposes may economically use a Hydraulic Swaging Tool while remaining work safe. These tools generate pressure 'spot' welds. Low Cost Wire strongly recommends that hydraulic swaging for lifting and marine applications use a bench mounted hydraulic press which can generate pressure 'seam' welds. Recommended for 1x19. (works with 7x7 and 7x19 structures).

Installation Considerations

  • Matching alloys is important and avoiding cross contamination is very important.
  • Nickel Coated Copper or Aluminum swages are used with Galvanised Wire Rope As a result, catastrophic swaging failure will not occur. Aluminium swages with stainless steel wire rope WILL cause a dissimilar alloys reaction and as a result corrode the Stainless Steel wire.
  • It may be necessary to (electrically) isolate and insulate fittings from the substrate material - again to avoid a galvanic (dissimilar alloys) reaction.
