Grey Nylon Shallow Split Ring Grommets protect stainless steel wire from non-stainless metals. Shallow Split Ring Grommets suit flat runs where the intermediate posts are Bar (as opposed to hollow section). These are the fiddly bits that provide protection to stainless steel wire (or rope) when it passes through a structure (generally metal) on the wire cable. Other Grommets are offered in an angle form and a shallow form – each is effective in different situations because of thick or thin walled tube, flat bar thickness, and any angular installation (stairs). Please note – these Grey Nylon Shallow Split Ring Grommets do NOT seal (watertight) to the wire. These grommets are electrical insulators to keep dissimilar alloys apart – and thereby avoid a galvanic reaction . This is the type of reaction that will occur between stainless steel and NON stainless metals (e.g. aluminium, and steel)
Usage: Mark out and drill a VERY NEAT 10.0mm hole (use a new bit). The retention shoulders are ~10.4mm and require a precise hole to keep the grommet in place. If in doubt, add a touch of silicon sealant to secure the grommet. Install them after all the wire is in place by simply spreading the grommet (split ring remember?) with a “byro”, slipping it over the wire and then pushing it into the hole. Too easy!
