Eye Strap Saddle fittings are generally known as Eye Straps or Saddles.  They are attachment points do not attach directly to wire rope. They are designed to be used with fasteners to attach to a flat surface – such as Metal (rivets), Timber (Counter Sunk or Pan Head Screws) or Masonry (Counter Sunk or Pan Head Screws with wall plugs).

G316 Stainless Steel 5.0mm Saddles (Eye Strap) are attachment points designed to be used with fasteners to attach to a flat surface.  They are strongest when the fasteners are under a tension load. Recommended fasteners are G6 counter sunk screws, G8 pan head screws, and 5-2 rivets. Other possibilities are bolts  screwed into an embedded thread fastener such as a rivet nut or a timber insert.

Rope fastened a saddle in a loop, should be ‘protected’ by a thimble.  The thimble distributes the load and prevent the wire being pulled through a radius that is tighter/smaller than is recommended.
****
Saddles work with open turnbuckles, closed turnbuckles, manually swaged fittings, and hydraulically swaged terminals.  Each size of Eye Strap Saddle is designed to work with a specific size (range) of wire or rope – refer to Dimension “W”
****
Use compatible alloy fasteners to avoid a dis-similar (corrosive) alloy reaction. Stainless Steel screws are used in timber (counter sunk screws in soft woods and pan head screws in hard woods). Stainless Steel Rivets attach Eye Strap Saddle fittings to metal surfaces (aluminium, mild steel, and stainless steel).

Usage Tips

  • Eye Strap Saddle fittings are attachment points do not attach directly to wire rope. They are designed to be used with fasteners to attach to a flat surface.  They are strongest when the fasteners are under a tension load.
  • Wire rope passed through or around a saddle in a loop, should be 'protected' by a thimble.  The thimble acts to distribute the load and prevent the wire being pulled through a radius that is tighter/smaller than is recommended. These fittings are designed to work with open turnbuckles, closed turnbuckles, manually swaged fittings, and hydraulically swaged terminals.  Each size of Eye Strap Saddle is designed to work with a specific size (range) of wire.
  • Eye Strap Saddle fittings can be secured with various fasteners such as counter sunk screws, pan head screws, and rivets.  Other possibilities are bolts of some sort that are screwed into an embedded thread fastener such as a rivet nut or a timber insert.

Installation Considerations

  • Matching alloys is important and avoiding cross contamination is very important.
  • It is recommended that similar alloy fasteners are used so that a dis similar (corrosive) alloy reaction is avoided. Generally G304 Stainless Steel screws are used in timber (counter sunk screws in soft woods and pan head screws in hard woods). Generally, G304 Stainless Steel Rivets are used to attach Eye Strap Saddle fittings to metal surfaces (aluminium, mild steel, and stainless steel).
  • It may be necessary to (electrically) isolate and insulate fittings from the substrate material - again to avoid a galvanic (dissimilar alloys) reaction.
