Coated Wire Rope

Discover the strength and versatility of our coated steel wire ropes. Designed for superior performance and extended lifespan, our wire ropes are available with Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC), Nylon, or Titanium Nitride (TiN) coatings. Perfect for various industrial and commercial applications, these coated wire ropes offer enhanced protection against wear, corrosion, and harsh environmental conditions.

The coatings do NOT affect the tensile strength (MBS) of the “base” wire rope, but they do affect the flexibility, longevity, corrosion resistance and applicability of the wire rope. “Base” wire ropes are either galvanized steel wire rope, or AISI 316 stainless steel wire rope. Coated Wire Diameters are given as a pair of numbers (e.g. 2.0mm/3.0mm) The smaller number is the diameter of the “base” wire rope, and the upper number is the diameter of the “base” wire rope and the coating taken together

Our Coated Wire Rope have Coatings that are either PVC or Nylon or TiN. Different xoatings have different durability and resilience – PVC being the lowest and TiN being the highest. As well, coatings are available in a wide range of thicknesses.

Coatings are also available in a wide range of “Stock” colors – and in the case of PVC and Nylon – both opaque and translucent. Custom opaque colors are available that match a specific Pantone Hex Code (note there is a MOQ of 1000M)

Benefits of Coated Wire Rope

  • Wear-and-tear protection for associated friction points
  • Enhanced durability and resilience
  • The various coatings add an extra layer of defense against abrasion
  • Corrosion resistance to acid salts, organic oils and lipids, alkali, neutral and acid solutions, ketones and complex ethers.
  • Available in multiple colors, enhancing visual appeal and aiding in identification.
  • Suitable for various applications, both indoors and outdoors, including high-friction uses.
  • The smooth coating can be easily stripped back when needed, facilitating installation and maintenance.

Applications of Coated Wire Rope:

  • Structural steel construction
  • Mine lifting cage
  • Fishing boat trawl
  • Guardrail
  • Catenary systems
  • Security cables
  • Lock cable systems
  • Barrier ropes

Characteristics of different types of coating

PVC Coating

Nylon coating

TiN coating

  1. PVC coating is lowest cost.
  2. Most flexible.
  3. General purpose coating.
  4. Available in Stock of Custom Colors.
  5. Very suitable for outdoor application.
  6. Easiest to strip the coating.
  1. Nylon coating is relatively Low Cost
  2. Nylon coating reduces the flexibility of the “base” wire rope.
  3. Abrasion and wear resistance.
  4. Available in Stock of Custom Colors.
  5. Very suitable for outdoor application.
  6. Difficult but possible to strip the coating.
  1. TiN with VDC application is the highest cost.
  2. Higher resistance to corrosion and chemical leaching.
  3. Hard protection and against physical damage, such as impact and freezing.
  4. Available in Stock of Custom Colors.
  5. Very suitable for outdoor application.
  6. Virtually impossible to strip the coating from the wire.
