Safety Lines Grouped by Strength and Function
Safety lines
are specialized versions of a Wire Rope Slings. And they range from cute, to big, to BAF – with all being “Rugged As”. Uses include safety or loss-prevention anchoring for a host of things. The whole idea is to link two things in a flexible manner so they only part company when you want them to leave. This can include red hot steel, people, ladders, locking pins, Go-Pro Cameras, Gas Caps and a myriad mix of pretty much anything.
The nomenclature that we use helps to differentiate the Safetly Line based on its strength which is dictated by its structure, diameter, and material.
- Tethers are made from Miniature Wire with a core dimension of 2.0mm or less,
- Lanyards are made from Common Wire with a core dimension from 7.0mm to 2.5mm inclusive and include Height Safety Straps (or “Strops”) as a special case,
- Slings are made from Big Wire with a core dimension of 8.0mm and above – and the possibilities are simply mind boggling.
