Trellis Wire
Trellis Wire is used in a lot of projects and we help a lot of people with a lot of landscape projects – in particular green walls and vertical landscaping. We have the fittings and we are building ‘kits’ for common types of applications. In general, we have all the bits and we will happily put together a quote with pictures after a quick discussion.
Thickness/strength of wire and fittings depends on the vine (grape vs jasmine), exposure of location (wind, rain, hail, etc), nature of attachment points and surface, length of installation, style of installation (belgian fence vs vertical climbers vs horizontal or verticals vs weaving) and overall ‘look’ (if you want dead straight wires, you need something stronger than if you don’t mind a bit of droop)…
Generally wire around 3.0mm works well and offers a lot of options regarding fittings and price. It has an ‘in-line’ minimum breaking strength of ~700 kgs.
2.0mm works for droopy jasmine and 4.8mm would work for laser straight espalier work on jacaranda trees…
