6.0mm 7×19 G2070 Galvanised Steel Wire Rope is rigging and lifting. This 6.0mm 7×19 G2070 Galvanised Steel Wire Rope (Marine Grade) has virtually no stretch coefficient and High range flexibility. The flexibility of the wire means it handles easily. As a result, it best either Manually or Hydraulically Swaged fittings. Both Professionals and DIY guys choose this wire for construction and rigging. All 6.0mm fittings suit this wire. Tensile Strength (MBS) = ~2518.7kg


Usage: This is a flexible wire making it easy to work with and bend with virtually no stretch coefficient. We recommend this wire with Thimble and Ferrule fittings as well as Hydraulically Swaged Fittings. Additional uses include: Picture (statue?) Hanging, Shop Fitting, Shade Sails, Trellis structuring, ‘Green Wall’ construction, Rigging Slings, Theatre Production Infrastructure – Stage Lights, Curtains, & Prop


Length of Wire: Use combinations of the offered lengths to get the desired total length. For example – choose a quantity of “8” of the 10M length to select a single length of 80 Metres. All Wire Rope orders are cut and shipped as a single length. As a result, each wire order is packaged as a coil or a reel depending on length and all are factory wrapped and sealed. A requirement of less than 100M on a reel needs a special order (please phone first).

Usage Tips

  • First of all, this wire may be hydraulically or manually swaged - or even finished off with Wire Rope Grips.
  • Cutting of the wire is best done using Parrot Beak cutters (collapsing trapezoidal design) rather than shears or a grinder.
  • Terminal Loops are formed with Mechanical fastening or manual swaging. In addition, terminal loops may use either galvanised or stainless steel thimbles (eyelets) to retain the strength of the wire by distributing the load along the entire length of wire in the terminal loop (available here). Recommended for only 7x7 and 7x19 structures
  • Mechanical fastening is done with Wire Rope Grips (Bulldog Grips) Low Cost Wire does not recommend this approach. Industry practice is three per terminal loop for safety purposes. This only suits 7x7 and 7x19 structures.
  • Manual swaging is done using Ferrules (or crimps or hand swages) rather than Wire Rope Grips. Aluminum is used instead of Nickel Coated Copper because its cheaper :) However, Nickel Coated Copper Swages can be used without a problem. As always, matching alloys is always important. Aluminium swages WILL NOT cause a dissimilar alloys reaction with Galvanised Wire in the same way they will corrode the Stainless Steel wire. Low Cost Wire strongly recommends an All-in-1 swaging tool. Recommended for only 7x7 and 7x19 structures
  • Hydraulic swaging is done using a hydraulic press either bench mounted or hand held. Hydraulic swaging for architectural purposes may economically use a Professional Hydraulic Swaging Tool (with the generic Hex Jaws) while remaining work safe. These tools generate pressure 'spot' welds. Low Cost Wire strongly recommends that Appropriate specialized jaws - designed for your ferrules/crimps - in your hydraulic swage press. This ensures a proper swage for lifting and marine applications

Installation Considerations

  • Matching alloys is important and avoiding cross contamination is very important. Generic fittings for G2070 Galvanised Steel Wire are made from either Nickel Coated Copper, Stainless Steel, Aluminium, or Galvanised Steel.
  • If this wire is used for lifting - pay attention to the MBS and calculate your own SWL. Here, fittings play a very important physical and legal role.
  • Generally only Galvanised Fittings are 'rated' for a specific load. For a load rated fitting to be accepted, it MUST be stamped with its rating.
  • Lengths of wire less than 100M are cut and labelled as a coil. Lengths of 150M and above are (generally) delivered on a reel however, small lengths can be put on a drum for a small additional cost (please refer to our Reeling Service
