Stainless Steel chain is a versatile steel chain where the characteristics of the alloy itself forms an invisible protective coating to prevent rust and corrosion, making them suited for everything from heavy-duty marine use to agriculture. While Stainless Steel chain is very strong – it is NOT rated for lifting. The primary types are categorized by their
- Link Style (short, and medium (regular)
- Alloy grade (G304 (A2), and G304 (A4)) and
- Finish (standard and electropoished).
Stainless Steel Chain categorized by Link Design (Structure)
- Short Link (Anchor Chain): Links are shorter and tighter, making the chain less prone to kinking but much harder to link with complementary hardware. It is the premium choice for specialized applications such as marine anchor chains and heavy-duty towing.
- Medium Link (Regular Chain): Links are longer, which allows you to hook or attach other hardware onto the end of the chain. It is the most commonly used chain in virtually every generic application. This chain is NOT calibrated
Stainless Steel Chain categorized by Grade (alloy)
- Grade 304 (A2): A high quality but lower cost stainless steel alloy, extremely common in Australia for general-purpose use, securing loads, and light towing. Not approved for lifting
- Grade 316 (A4): A higher quality marine grade stainless steel, allowing it to handle much more aggressive installation conditions. Not approved for lifting applications.
Stainless Chain categorized Finish Method
- Standard: The stainless steel is as manufactured. This a bright and highly durable finish perfect for outdoor and saltwater environments. It has a bright grey, smooth finish.
- Electropolished: The stainless steel has elements of the surface removed chemically in a hot bath. This results in a mirrorlike smooth, shiny, and precise finish which providing the normal inert layer of protection. It is best suited for decorative use.
